Meet our workshop manager Mariusz

“Things can get a little hectic towards the end of the week but on Monday you’ve the whole week in front of you. It’s like a fresh start,” he said.

It’s a refreshing attitude for Mariusz who joined us back in September 2007.

He initially worked as a coating technician, so has a deep knowledge and extensive experience of the whole surface coating process.

But he’s been workshop manager for around eight years now and he spends his days planning the work – and “keeping an eye on the boys”, he says with a smile.

Mariusz is also an AMPP/NACE inspector, which means he’s qualified to inspect every part of the coating process. This is all the way through from washing, blasting and preparing the surface right through to the inspection after the treatment before it goes out to the client.

“I find the knowledge invaluable every single day,” he said. “It means I know exactly what to do, and how to do it right. And it helps in all my work in the workshop: I think I’d find it harder to explain to the team how to carry out things to the precise specification without it – and I can make sure everyone else’s work is carried out to Nexus’s high standards.”

He recently undertook training at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce to hone his management skills. Mariusz says it’s really helped him improve the organisation behind the team and how to deal with the problems that inevitably crop up, as well as support the team on a daily basis. And it can be demanding work juggling the priorities.

“It’s all about providing quality to a deadline,” explained Mariusz. “We are always aiming to complete work to the client’s satisfaction and we will always help them out with turnaround times wherever we can.”

His mantra however is “work safely”; very much mirroring the words of colleague David Walker.

“You’re always working to deadlines,” said Mariusz, “but at the end of the day, you don’t want to see anyone injured.”

And it’s that attitude, together with Mariusz’s commitment to customer satisfaction and quick project turnaround times, that makes him such a valuable member of the Nexus team.
